Finding the work-life balance – advice from a Woman Grandmaster

FIDE's Deputy Chair of the Management board and Woman Grandmaster, Dana Reizniece-Ozola, gave a lecture titled "How to Win the Game: balancing work and family life"

Drawing from her personal experiences as a mother of four, former member of the Latvian government, and competitive chess player, Dana Reizniece-Ozola shared her insights on how to achieve success in multiple areas of life. Throughout her professional career, Dana faced numerous challenges, but she never let them hinder her pursuit of excellence.
From her early days in chess to her current role as a high-ranking FIDE officer, Dana highlighted the importance of perseverance and determination.
"If you are given a choice between career, family and hobbies, this is a fake choice. You can have it all. Those who take one more step when the body and brain tell them they can’t do anymore, are the ones who become champions", said Dana, encouraging her audience to aim high.
"A calm mind is a creative mind. Take your time to relax and think. While you run the daily routine, you do not have space for productive thoughts", she added, urging listeners to prioritize their mental well-being.
Dana's lecture was a powerful reminder that success in all aspects of life is achievable with the right mindset and approach.
